Dear freedom fighters of the Basque Country!
We, members of the Kurdish independent press who are jailed in Turkey and Kurdistan prisons, greet the freedom struggles of the world’s all oppressed peoples, in the person of the freedom fighters of the Basque Country.
We are in prison today because of our struggle to uphold and tell the democratic, libertarian and peaceful demands of the oppressed Kurdish people. The Kurds are under attack by the exploitative, oppressive and totalitarian regimes of the Middle East. We are well aware of the fact that our Basque comrades are also in prison today because they choose to fight for peace. Their struggle for freedom is ours.
We call on all oppressors to release Basque political prisoners and to keep their hands off the Basque Country! We are well aware that the freedom struggle in Basque and Kurdistan resound throughout not only these two lands but everywhere in the world, and that the voice rising from these lands is the most beautiful voice whispered into the ears of all of the oppressed, workers, women, children, libertarians, democrats, pacifists and environmentalists. As prisoners of freedom, we see it our duty to raise this voice. With our sincere feelings, we once again greet the great demonstration you have organized for Basque political prisoners. We are next to you with our hearts and minds. We are confident that we will be walking arm in arm with our Basque comrades till the victory.
Long live the freedom of the Basque Country!
Kurdish journalists in Turkish prisons
Dear comrades!
We send this message to express our solidarity with the Basque people who courageously have defended their political prisoners and captives. The captives, who unselfishly have sacrificed their own personal interests for the sake of freedom and dignity, deserve a similar sacrifice from our side. Being deprived of ones freedom is a common feature shared by all suppressed peoples. We as the Kurdish people in Western Kurdistan (Northern Syria) were subjected to arbitrary detentions and torture to the point of martyrdom, since our uprising against the Baath-regime in 2004.
Today we experience oppression on two fronts 1) from the repressive Baath-regime and 2) from Turkey backed jihadist groups who are staging attacks against our towns in western Kurdistan.
We are confident that both the Basque people and the Kurdish people will prevail in their struggles for freedom, since our common cause is legitimate and just. We hold the resistance of your people in the highest esteem and we wish to express our sincerest solidarity with you on this day, 12 January 2013, which will see an important demonstration for political prisoners.
